Though watches are essentially just time-telling gadgets, that doesn’t mean they can’t pop and level up your style game.
This certainly applies to the two new timepieces we’re highlighting today. From a Mother Nature-inspired creation, to a grand re-imagining of a beloved favourite, here are two new watch drops that’re just divine!
Grand Seiko SLGH027
Behold – beauty in simplicity, elegance captured in a portable package. Dubbed the “Mountainscape,” Grand Seiko’s new SLGH027 reference draws direct aesthetic inspiration from the ridges of Mount Iwate, a popular pattern beloved since it was first introduced back in 2006.
Since then, the rugged landscape, carved out by lava flow, has been a treasured symbol not only by the watchmaking company, but also by the Japanese people, as it features a striking light-blue, almost gemstone-like hue.
Diving into the details of the watch, which is the latest addition to the Evolution 9 Collection, reveals multifaceted hands and indices in the series’ iconic case. Ever-Brilliant Steel, a stainless-steel alloy that resists corrosion better than other materials used in the watch industry, is used to make the case and bracelet.
This alloy gives the watch’s hairline-finished sections a whiter sheen that goes well with the silver-blue dial, creating a visually arresting yet well-balanced finish.
Under the hood is the 9SA5 Hi-Beat automatic movement, a sturdy mechanism that provides accurate timekeeping and an 80-hour power reserve, the latter of which is largely attributed to its twin barrels and Dual Impulse Escapement.
Even this ticking box of gears is inspired by the rippling waves of the Shizukuishi River, the closest body of water to the active volcano, which you can see through the open sapphire caseback.
With only 1,200 units available, the SLGH027 “Mountainscape” is a coveted limited-edition piece, with a single unit retailing for US$10,500 (~RM47,110). Though it is slated for release only in May, you can read more about it here.
URWERK UR-100V Magic T “Hunter Green”
The watchmaking world is home to several illustrious brands, each providing excellent timekeepers in their own right for centuries. However, despite their established presence, they are still susceptible to young underdog companies that seek to disrupt the status quo. One such company is URWERK, a Swiss watch brand that was founded in 1997 and has since been producing absolutely stunning pieces that are as unique as they are gorgeous.
One such piece is the URWERK UR-100V Magic T “Hunter Green,” a new take on the staple UR-100V Magic. This variant comes in a lush emerald green reminiscent of the Amazon forest, breaking away from its predecessors as well as the market standard of base metallic grey colours.
Despite this, it still features all the classic hallmarks that made the original memorable to fans. The new reference has a 48-hour running time and is controlled by the Windfänger airscrew. It is powered by the UR 12.02 self-winding movement. Precision and dependability are guaranteed by the calibre, which is held in place by 40 jewels and beats at a rate of 28,800 vibrations per hour.
In addition to satellite hours and minutes, the watch also shows orbital distance and rotational distance at the Equator in 20 minutes, offering a distinctive combination of practicality and artistic design.
The watch comes with an integrated titanium link bracelet in matching finishes to go with its sanded and shot-blasted titanium case.
The watch’s overall appearance is enhanced by this well-thought-out design, which also guarantees the wearer’s comfort and longevity.
With only 35 units available globally, the URWERK UR-100V Magic T “Hunter Green” is an exquisite limited piece that will level up all your future attire. Thus it commands a price of CHF58,000 (~RM283,243). For more information, visit URWERK’s official website
