PETALING JAYA: A total of 373,525 candidates took the SPM exam last year with 60.6% of them passing all their subjects, education minister Fadhlina Sidek said.
In a parliamentary written reply to Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Ind-Kuala Kangsar), she said it is higher than in 2022 when 57.1% passed all subjects.
“Some 93.5% of candidates were eligible to receive the SPM certificate in 2023, which was also an increase from 91.6% in 2022.
“This is the best achievement since 2013, based on the SPM certification criteria, which require at least a pass in Bahasa Malaysia and history,” she said.
In May, it was reported that 11,713 candidates who sat for the 2023 SPM exam obtained excellent results with grades of A+, A and A- in all subjects.
Education director-general Azman Adnan said the candidates had improved on the previous year, recording a national average grade of 4.60 in 2023 compared with 4.74 in 2022, where a smaller national average grade value indicates better candidate achievement.
