Since his recent re-appointment as Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke has frequently been making headlines and going viral on social media. One of the reasons for this is that he’s been conducting spot checks at LRT stations and other public transportation facilities; and listening to the many grouses of the general public – commuters in particular.
The minister has also been promising change for the better, including lowering the price of flight tickets – which many were sceptical about, as it seemed undoable. But to netizens’ surprise, Anthony Loke managed to do it!
Anthony Loke ni memang tunai janjinya utk turunkan harga ticket. Akhirnya saya boleh tempah ticket ke KK dengan harga berbaloi! Selalunya sangat mahal nak mampus!

Malaysia is one of the many countries in the world that relies heavily on the local commercial aviation industry, as Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (Sabah-Sarawak) are literally separated by an ocean. That is why we NEED planes to travel between these regions – and at an affordable cost.
But for many years, citizens have had no choice but to pay incredibly high airfares just to get to the other side of the country. That is, until our new Minister of Transport stepped in. According to the tweet above, the price of a roundtrip ticket from West Malaysia to Kota Kinabalu is now only around RM200 – almost half the price it was before!
Scrolling through the Twitter comments, we found that many are impressed with the minister’s achievement. Some brought up the current viral joke “Refraining self from being impressed” when referencing Anthony Loke’s competence. One netizen said “Imagine if we place Anthony Loke at every post. That is why when voting, we look at capabilities.”
All in all, we are happy to see such quick work from our new Minister of Transport. Let’s all hope that, moving forward, things only get better for Malaysia.
