Apple To Have Its Own Generative AI Features Roll Out Later This Year

Samsung has made a big deal of generative AI on mobile devices with its launch of the Galaxy S24 series of devices, alongside Google, of course. Apple is looking to join in the fun as well, and as soon as this year too, according to a report citing company CEO Tim Cook during an earnings call.

According to The Verge, Cook told investors that Apple is working on its own generative AI software features that will be making their way to customers “later this year”. This could come either as part of the new announcement for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, the next macOS, or even alongside the iPhone 16, but Cook did not offer specifics during the call.

When pressed for details, the report noted that Cook told analysts that Apple “has always been to do work and then talk about work, and not to get out in front of ourselves”. Which is fair, as the iPhone maker has had episodes of integrating features that have for years became standard on Android devices.

The claim though is more often than not getting said feature right, which is difficult to do with generative AI considering the number of times they have been broken by dedicated enough users. Regardless of the confidence Apple has with its own take on generative AI, there will likely be reports of it being broken by dedicated enough users, just like ChatGPT, Bing and Bard all have.
