American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift recently dropped her highly anticipated album, “The Tortured Poets Department”, which many had speculated is about her ex, Joe Alwyn. The singer is known for using her love life as lyrical inspiration and given her years-long relationship with the actor, it does seem like the star had plenty to write about. However, after the release, fans are starting to wonder if Taylor had another ex in mind during writing – The 1975’s Matty Healy.
Here are some of the songs and lyrics that had fans puzzled:
“The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”
In this track, the 35-year-old brutally called out someone in a “Jehovah’s Witness suit” who “didn’t measure up in any measure of a man.” The lines, “You tried to buy some pills,” alluded that the individual also had issues with substance abuse. Some fans believe these lyrics were about Matty, who is known for his trademark suits and openness about his drug addiction.
“So Long, London”
However, this other track seemed to have been about Joe because of the lyrics, “And I’m pissed off you let me give you all that youth for free”. Taylor reportedly started dating the actor when she was 27, and the relationship lasted for over six years. Taylor had even considered marriage – but the song alludes that Joe was unwilling to commit.
“I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)”
Another track on the album that fans theorise is about Matty, who doesn’t have the best reputation in the music industry. The lyrics, “They shake their heads saying, “God, help her” when I tell ‘em he’s my man”, could be about her fans’ reaction to Taylor dating the controversial singer.
“I Can Do With A Broken Heart”
Swifties are almost confident that this track was about Joe. The song was about Taylor’s resilience while performing, even amidst a breakup. The vocalist had just started touring for a month when reports revealed that she had broken up with the actor.
Of course, there is no telling whether or not these tracks were about Taylor’s two exes. Nevertheless, the award-winning star continues to reap praises for her recent release while still being madly in love with her current partner, football player Travis Kelce.
