While many had high hopes for artist Sit Yeng Yi (薛影仪), more fondly known as Ah Yi (阿仪) last year, 2023 has proven otherwise. To make matters worse, the only one to blame for allegedly ruining her career is Sit Yeng Yi herself.
Things started picking up for Sit Yeng Yi last year after she was taken in by Asia Momentum Media (AMM, 亚洲心动娱乐). Unfortunately, all that has come crashing down. AMM has recently announced that they would be suspending their work with Sit Yeng Yi in light of her recent actions.
Lately, the former Miss Asia Pageant 2021 participant has been going against the grain. Netizens reportedly weren’t too happy to discover she had been hanging out with Hong Kong artist Gloriana Wong (黄榕). Things got worse when Yeng Yi publicly criticised her manager, Connie Lam (林宝玉) online. And apparently, that was the last straw for AMM.
On 27th September, media company AMM released a statement addressing Sit Yeng Yi’s recent behaviour. “Regarding the remarks made by AMM artist Sit Yeng Yi on Instagram, the company would like to clarify that it has nothing to do with the company and does not represent the company’s stance,” they stated.
AMM claimed that a few months ago, Yeng Yi had already broken their contract by acting out. They alleged that she had “stolen the company’s Instagram account without authorisation“, and “posted private photos of activities unrelated to the company“. She had also skipped a few events arranged by the company without reason, resulting in her being suspended from all activities by AMM.
As Yeng Yi’s actions had affected the company’s image and caused them losses, AMM allegedly feels the need to severely deal with her. “The company views (Yeng Yi’s misconduct) seriously and greatly condemns her for not only failing to reflect on her affairs but also for making a personal attack on her manager Connie Lam,” the statement read.
“Whether she was instigated by someone (into doing it) or purely (on) her own behavior, her actions completely crossed the line and betrayed the careful cultivation and expectations that the company and managers had placed on her over the years. As a result, the company will indefinitely suspend the following work and investment planned for Yeng Yi, and also reserves all disciplinary and legal actions against her,” AMM stated.
However, Yeng Yi herself recently took to her socials to defend herself. She claimed that it was a misunderstanding, adding that her absence had been due to personal reasons. “The company couldn’t reschedule (and) I didn’t have any work to do after that,” she said, referring to her recent inactivity.
She also apparently claimed she had been rude to Connie because she is “annoying”. “I have not stolen the company’s social media account. I am using an IG account that is better than mine,” Yeng Yi added. But, netizens have not been happy with her response, with several advising her to reconsider her actions.
Well, this may be a difficult time for Sit Yeng Yi. For now, all we can do is watch and see what will become of her and her celebrity career.
