PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu leader has lodged a police report alleging that a private company sponsored an overseas trip for senior officials of a ministry.

Badrul Hisham Shaharin, also known as Chegubard, claimed that the company, which had business dealings with the ministry, sponsored a trip to England and France from Nov 24 to 30 last year.

“I received a set of documents showing that the ministry’s secretary-general, deputy director-general, division director and several senior officials went on a ‘luxurious trip’ to England and France, fully sponsored by the private company.

“Based on the documents, it is evident that the company has business transactions with the ministry. The trip was also attended by the company’s director, CEO and senior officers,” he told reporters after filing the report at the Dang Wangi police station.

The Port Dickson Bersatu chief urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into what he described as an abuse of power and corruption.

He said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim had said in 2022 that the government did not permit private companies to sponsor trips for civil servants, making this case a direct violation of that directive.

Badrul said all relevant documents, including the travel itinerary, accommodation details and other information, had been handed over to the police for investigation.

“We are also urging the ministry involved to provide clarification on this issue,” he said.
