Police today said they are investigating PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over a speech in which he touched on the differences between the Islamic system for pardoning convicts and that of the Pardons Board during a campaign for the Simpang Jeram by-election in Johor.
Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the investigation is being carried out by Bukit Aman police under the Sedition Act.
The PAS president’s political secretary and Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman, when contacted by MalaysiaNow, said Hadi was ready to cooperate with the police.
“Even before this, Hadi had given his statement to Bukit Aman, including surrendering the mobile phone of the administrator of his official Facebook account to the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to assist with investigations.
“In this matter, Hadi puts his full trust in the professionalism of the police and the MCMC in conducting their duties and the investigation,” he said.
Syahir, however, said that the police did not inform him why Hadi was called up.
