Things are definitely more expensive nowadays, that’s a fact we can’t ignore. But, paying RM5 for a cup of iced coffee? Most would still argue it’s a bit much and not worth our money! Well, that was certainly what this netizen thought when they heard the price.
This customer was recently affronted when they had to pay RM5 for a whole drink, and nothing too fancy either. It was simply a cup of iced coffee, ordered at a hawker center in Johor Bahru. Needless to say, they soon got other netizens onboard with their complaint.
The post was uploaded to Facebook group 新山消费者投诉平台 yesterday (11th January). It showed a normal looking cup of iced coffee. The caption read: “A cup of iced coffee (kopi ice) for RM5?” the netizen said, astonished. “Is it because I haven’t drunk coffee in a long time?” They also tagged the hawker center they ate at; Taman Pelangi Food Court (彩虹花园小贩中心) in Johor Bahru.
Netizens were quick to question them about the supposed price of the drink. “No matter how expensive the hawker store is, it’s unlikely that a cup will cost you RM5 right? They have set prices,” one said. Another too queried: “Are the drinks not priced?” The netizen claimed someone had simply taken their drink order and they only discovered its price after it was delivered.
They also added that someone had told them the drink store usually charged by size. “Someone told me this is a medium cup that cost RM5. (It’s) RM2.50 for a small cup,” they said. Another netizen claimed this hawker center was notorious for its expensive drinks. “Last time someone ordered iced herbal tea for RM4,” they shared.
Others expressed their unhappiness at the price. “It’s too expensive and outrageous,” one said. “(It) cost RM5 for that coffee colour and the environment? That’s too outrageous,” another opined. Several also urged the netizen to officially report it to the Ministry of Domestic Trade And Consumer Affairs.
Well, clearly most agree that a cup of iced coffee certainly isn’t worth RM5. It might be better to simply make a cup of iced coffee for yourself at home!
