After years of waiting, South Korean pop-rock band DAY6 (데이식스) will hold their first-ever Malaysian concert this weekend at the Mega Star Arena. In anticipation of the long-awaited event, local MyDays (DAY6 fans) gathered at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) late last night (3rd October 2024, Thursday) to greet the band as they finally set foot on local soil.
Footage of the band arriving at KLIA went viral on social media as Malaysian fans excitedly welcomed members Sungjin (성진), YoungK (영케이), Wonpil (원필) and Dowoon (도운) to the country. However, Sungjin garnered the most attention from local fans because of his choice of airport fashion en route to Malaysia. According to photos, the guitarist wore a denim jacket and white tee combo, with dark cargo pants and a simple necklace to tie it all together.
The outfit seemed simple, but the jacket’s design was what had Malaysian fans showering Sungjin with praise because, on the back, there was a large embroidered hibiscus flower. The front of the jacket has two embroidered coconut trees on the chest area. As the hibiscus flower is the national flower of Malaysia, local MyDays praised the singer, saying his outfit choice was apt for his first trip to the country.
Some wondered if it was a deliberate choice and questioned whether Sungjin had done research about Malaysia before choosing the outfit. However, some fans noted that the hibiscus is also the national flower of South Korea. While there’s still a possibility that it was pure coincidence, many fans were nevertheless touched by the 31-year-olds simple yet meaningful gesture of wearing the national flower of the country he’s visiting.
DAY6 will perform their two-day concert at Mega Star Arena this weekend as part of their “Forever Young” World Tour. Kuala Lumpur is their first overseas stop for the tour, so it’s no surprise that the excitement levels are high. We hope the band will have an incredible first performance in Malaysia – and hopefully lead to more local shows.
