Domain Names – .Com? .Org? .info? What Is The Best Choice?

0

Choosing a good domain name for your website or blog is very important. Most people will find your site because they searched for the Keyword which you were able to capture in the name of your domain.

But what about the ending?

A lot of times you will find that the.Com for a domain name is already taken. So do you automatically grab another choice that is offered to you? Well, it depends on your philosophy.

Some internet marketers will choose ONLY a. They will do whatever it takes to get that ending. That means they may be adding words such as site, best, today, now, how to, and others, along with their Keyword, in order to claim the .Comending. They obviously feel that the ending does make a difference.

Other marketers have different opinions. One guru I know prefers .Org although he will say he does not really know why. Another one says use anything except .Info. You will find lots of other choices available when you are searching for your domain name.

Of course, if you are in the US then you would not want to use an ending that indicates a different country.

It used to be that the endings really meant something. For example, .Com would indicate that you were headed to a commercial site which would have sold something or have product information. An organization of some kind could be found at a .Org. And a .Info would offer information about a certain topic or maybe even about an area such as the Smokey Mountains.

Having these different endings, in the beginning of Internet Marketing, helped the people seeking to know what type of site they would be finding. That does not seem to be the case any more.

These days, people are using whatever they find available. Most likely they are doing this because they so badly want to have their Keyword – what people are searching for – in the name of their domain.

If you look at domain names as you go from site to site, you will find some interesting ones. Several markets are making good use of the .Me ending. This can be personalized to make any site yours. Some good examples would be: JimSmith.ME, or JimSmithsBlog.ME or JimSmithsMusing.ME. These are very clever.

You need to decide for yourself if you feel that the.Me is professional enough of a domain name for what you are trying to accomplish on your site.
