Elitist politicians edging out community-centric politicians

LETTER | As the country continues to watch and talk about the uncertain future that is ahead of them, one observation that requires deeper thinking is about the “class politicians” the nation has spawned and nurtured.

Our politicians can be classed under two categories. One is the elitist politicians and the other the working class, community politicians.

While the latter is bound to get the votes from the constituents (ie the ordinary rakyat), the elitist politicians have amassed great power and control around them, thanks to the business classes and a political system that was nurtured these past thirty years.

Today, in the wake of the political dilemma threatening our future and striking deep on the economy, we can witness more clearly these two classes of politicians that make up our political landscape.

At all costs, the elitist politicians will not allow themselves to be marginalised, ostracised, punished and left in the cold.

Meanwhile, the community politicians are finding it an increasingly daunting task to break through the well-protected elitist circle and remain increasingly frustrated that they are made to look incapacitated in the eyes of their constituents.

And as the elitist group lobbies and make loud calls that they alone can protect the ordinary rakyat, it is most obvious that these politicians who have access to funds can sway the crowds.

Unfortunately, the voters in all probability will remain at the losing end. And their community politicians will increasingly be edged out by the agendas in motion.

In this current predicament that has taken the country by storm over the past several days, we need to ask ourselves whether the future of this nation should be parked in the gloved hands of elitist politicians or deposited into the working palms of community politicians.

But will the elitist politicians who have all the trappings of wealthy lifestyles easily surrender their power and control and let the rakyat build a New Malaysia for all Malaysians through their preferred community politicians who only care for the prosperity of the nation?

The outcome appears like a forgone conclusion as we witness the entourage of powerful individuals making their way to the Royal Palace.
