Google is currently pursuing a lawsuit against a former engineer that they allege had posted confidential documents regarding the design of its latest Pixel chip. Not only that, they also say that the individual had made some threatening comments towards them.

Harshit Roy, the individual in question, worked as a semiconductor engineer at Google in 2020 and was given the responsibility, among other engineers, the design, develop, and deploy chipsets used in the Alphabet-owned company’s Pixel product line.

Cutting to the chase, Roy’s dissent was growing within the company and after he left the company in March of this year, he also took a laptop assigned to him, to the attend a doctoral program at the University of Texas in Austin. Not long after, they began posting what were deemed to be confidential information of Google Pixel chips, one of which is currently being used in the Pixel 9 Series.

Google’s lawsuit claims that Roy posted a link on LinkedIn to a folder containing a 158 photographs of internal company files, many of which included information regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the Pixel chip, among other things.

Interestingly, Roy doesn’t seem perturbed about the potential legal landslide that’s coming his way. Google says that it initially tried to resolve the matter amicably but when Roy didn’t budge and ignored the company, it had no choice but to pursue him legally. It is currently asking the court for an unspecified amount of money in damages from the defendant, as well as a court order to block Roy from using or sharing its secrets.
