PETALING JAYA: Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa has denied issuing a statement said to be from her office regarding a purported supplementary order placing former prime minister Najib Razak under house arrest.

The statement, circulated online, claimed that the addendum supposedly issued by former king Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah was legitimate.

In an X posting, Zaliha said she had never issued the statement.

“This is an irresponsible act, and I will take legal action against anyone who issues or spreads this false media statement,” she said.

The fake statement emerged a day after Najib filed an application seeking to adduce fresh evidence in the Court of Appeal to prove the existence of a supplementary order allowing him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.

His bid to present new evidence at the hearing of his appeal for leave to commence judicial review proceedings was later adjourned.

Senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan told the Court of Appeal that the adjournment was necessary to allow the government to verify the authenticity of the document in question.

Court documents seen by FMT revealed that Najib’s application also included an affidavit signed by his son, Nizar, the Peramu Jaya assemblyman, and a Pahang executive councillor.

The High Court previously ruled that Najib had failed to show an arguable case to warrant a full hearing of his proposed judicial review application.

Justice Amarjeet Singh said the statements contained in affidavits filed by Najib, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and the party’s vice-president, Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, were hearsay and inadmissible as evidence.

The Federal Territories Pardons Board announced on Feb 2 that Najib’s prison sentence in his SRC International case had been halved from 12 years to six, and his fine reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.

The former prime minister is currently serving his jail sentence at Kajang prison.
