Go Backwards & Forwards In Time With 2 Epic Drops From Panerai & C2H4® X G-SHOCK!

The past and the future are two fickle concepts that we struggle grasping with. However, what we can all easily appreciate are exquisite and high-tech timepieces that dazzle the eye and the mind.

From a futuristic wonder to an homage to the past – here are two timepiece drops you’ve got to get your head around (and then get one, or both, around your wrist).

Panerai’s Luminor Tre Giorni

The Italian luxury watch manufacturer Panerai has been crafting premium timepieces for over 160 years now. Throughout this time, the brand has been evolving with the decades, integrating any and all sophisticated techniques and innovations discovered throughout the years, while still retaining what made its watches more coveted than the rest.

However, with the new Luminor Tre Giorni, Panerai has found a way to marry modern innovation with classic elegance like never before. This reference commands respect thanks to its robust patina steel case, a stylised choice that was inspired by the watches worn by Italian commandos during their underwater missions. It features a large 47mm case, which was also an important element back then that was carefully recreated for its readability.

Of course, though it is inspired by the past, it still has some elements that are unique to the Luminor Tre Giorni. Starting with its face, where you can see a mesmerising blend of grey-grained and black gradient sandwich dial. This special dial was developed back in the late 1930s, but has recently evolved into something so much more; now created with two superimposed plates, the lower of which is filled with Super-LumiNova that allows it to glow in the dark. This dazzling display is further adorned by luminous beige hands and hour markers that break up the monotony of the entire design.

What makes this exquisite piece tick is the P.3000, a manually wound movement with a three-day power reserve. If you’d like to see it in action, you can do so through the open caseback.

The Luminor Tre Giorni, or PAM01628, is available for purchase now, exclusively at physical Panerai boutiques. Visit Panerai’s official website for more information.

C2H4® x G-SHOCK’s GM-5600 Space Age Edition

Though we can always look back and pay homage to the past, there are times when we have to keep our eyes on the future, something that C2H4® and G-SHOCK have done with the new GM-5600.

Inspired by Space Age aesthetics, this collaboration put emphasis on streamlined shapes and innovative materials, all in a minimalistic body. Coming in a mirror-finished metal frame, the GM-5600 features an LAX’s Theme Building behind the displays as a backlight. This is a nod to the iconic structure from the heyday of the Space Age.

The dial also features a reimagined, grid-like pattern that not only acts as an additional bezel to the watch face but also as an additional means to highlight the overall face. The strap, on the other hand, comes in a translucent material that is adorned with red strips all around it.

If this hasn’t convinced you that the piece isn’t Space Age-themed enough, it comes packaged in a special box. Inspired by the ATC Genie Telephone, this off-white and red ovoid container is very similar to that of a space capsule, which also echoes the Theme Building motif on the watch face; the very same pattern is also engraved onto the capsule.

The GM-5600 Space Age Edition will be available on C2H4® and G-SHOCK’s official webstores on 9th January, with physical G-SHOCK stores following close behind on 11th January.
