Hajiji Noor’s Cabinet comprises two assembly members from two coalitions, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Barisan Nasional.
PETALING JAYA: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has confirmed that he would be reshuffling the state Cabinet in the wake of a failed coup attempt said to involve leaders from Barisan Nasional and Warisan.
“Details will be disclosed soon,” the chief minister’s office said in a brief statement.
Earlier today, FMT reported that the biggest casualty is expected to be deputy chief minister Bung Moktar Radin, who is Sabah Umno chief. He was among those said to be linked to the coup.
State tourism and culture minister Jafry Ariffin is also likely to be dropped.
The announcement of the reshuffle comes after widespread speculation yesterday about an imminent collapse of Hajiji’s government and a new government formed by Barisan Nasional and Warisan.
However, GRS leaders dismissed the rumours, saying these were aimed at destabilising the political situation in the state.
Hajiji’s government comprises members of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and BN and commands the votes of 53 state assembly members, including seven appointed members.
Warisan, with 19 seats, is the only party in the opposition, while Sabah PH, which reaffirmed its support for Hajiji yesterday, has seven seats in the state assembly.
