Korean entertainment agencies are always on the lookout for new talent. We’ve heard countless stories from idols about how they were scouted by their labels, with SM being known for its peculiar methods. Speaking of SM, the company is currently going viral after introducing one of their new male trainees, Hamin (하민).
The idol-in-training recently appeared on SBS’s behind-the-scenes documentary of the SM Town Live concert. After his TV appearance, Hamin gained more followers on Weibo, accumulating more than 130K followers. Fans were enchanted by his good looks and grew curious about the young star, so let’s learn a little more about Hamin.
1. He is part of SMTR25
Hamin is one of the current members of SMTR25, a group of trainees under SM Entertainment for this year. According to K-pop Fandom, there are currently 21 members in this trainee group project but unfortunately, not all of them will have the opportunity to debut. His physical appearance is also the reason why he’s one of the most popular members of the group.
2. He performed at the SM TOWN Live concert
Most trainees don’t get the chance to perform until they debut, but SMTR25 had the golden opportunity to perform at an actual concert during the recent SM TOWN Live event. Hamin joined his fellow members in performing songs by their seniors, including EXO’s “Growl” and SHINee’s “Lucifer.”
3. He used to live abroad
According to the SMBG Twitter account, Hamin moved to the Philippines when he was in middle school. He moved back to South Korea in mid-2022 to support his sister’s dreams of becoming an idol.
4. He attended a dance academy with his sister
Hamin and his sister attended the same dance academy. According to comments from former classmates, the trainee was clumsy at first but has significantly improved, to the point that he passed his audition and was recruited by SM Entertainment.
5. He also goes by Haru
Hamin is actually his real name, but it’s likely the trainee will go by Haru, as that is known to be his nickname among fans. Regardless of what his stage name will be, he’s already gained quite the fanbase, so there’s no doubt that fans will be happy to call him whatever name he chooses once he debuts.
