HK Actor Chow Yun Fat Celebrates His 70th Birthday With A Run With Friends

Renowned Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat (周润发) recently hit another major milestone: turning 70 years old! So how did the star celebrate the occasion? By doing what he loves the most – going on a run!

The actor, born in 1955, turned 70 years old yesterday (18th May 2025, Sunday). Known for his love of running and hiking, Chow Yun Fat celebrated his birthday by going for a run with a few of his celebrity friends. HK actor Michael Miu (苗僑偉), actress Jaime Chik (戚美珍), and singer Calvin Choy (蔡一智) were amongst those who joined Chow Yun Fat on his birthday run. Michael and Calvin also took to social media to share birthday wishes for the HK film icon.

In his post, Michael called Chow Yun Fat a “respected big brother” and a role model in life and work. On the other hand, Calvin wrote in his post, “Happy 70 birthday to my super idol”, before wishing the actor good health and longevity. Many other Hong Kong stars echoed the birthday wishes, including actor Carlos Chan (陳家樂) and actress Priscilla Wong (黃翠如). The latter is also one of Chow Yun Fat’s “running buddies” who has joined him on his daily runs.

Chow Yun Fat’s decision to celebrate his birthday with a run highlights his impressive strength and active lifestyle at his older age. The actor even participated in a half-marathon in early February, finishing the run in two hours and 24 minutes. He’s also proven to be better at running than his younger peers. Last year, the star ran a 10km run with his protege, former TVB actress Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), only to beat the 44-year-old by 4 minutes.

On the evening of his birthday, the star had a more traditional celebration with family and friends. In a photo, Chow Yun Fat posed alongside his wife, Jasmine Tan, in front of a peach-shaped cake. In Chinese culture, peaches symbolise longevity and are common at birthday celebrations. The star also amused attendees by jokingly feeding a piece of cake to his pet dog, saying, “You can’t eat too much sweets, but a little is still good.”

Happy belated birthday to Chow Yun Fat! Here’s to more years of acting and running!
