While Honda is best known for its cars and motorcycles, the brand is no stranger to aviation either, and it will be showing its wares in the air mobility sector with what appears to be an electric vertical take off and landing (eVTOL) flying car at the upcoming 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS).
Only a sole image of the vehicle accompanies the announcement, though this eVTOL craft appears similar to that which was announced in 2021 to be under development for intra-city and intercity use.
While the vehicle shown in 2021 is an eVTOL by name, it is more a hybrid by nature, as a small battery capacity limits purely electric power to usage within cities, and Honda has incorporated a gas turbine and an AC/DC converter to supplement battery power.
Back in the realm of road-going vehicles, joining the roster of exhibits by Honda at KLIMS 2024 are the Prelude Concept, and the Motocompacto foldable electric scooter.
The Prelude Concept was confirmed shortly after its unveiling to employ a hybrid powertrain, though no further technical details were revealed. This is therefore likely to be a version of the e:HEV powertrain used in the City, Civic, HR-V and CR-V.
Meanwhile, the Motocompacto is a battery-electric remake of the manufacturer’s 50 cc Motocompo, designed to fit in the luggage compartment of the 1981 Honda City. The Motocompacto weighs 18.7 kg, and packs a 6.8 Ah battery that offers up to 20 km of range, and a top speed of 24 km/h, while measuring 967.8 mm long (742 mm folded), 889 mm tall (536 mm folded), and 437 mm wide (94 mm folded).
