Internet Marketing Strategy – How Search Engines Work

0

In the old days, it used to be difficult to get the search engines to find your website. You had to do all kinds of things and be an expert in all kinds of things in order to get decent rankings. Getting traffic was practically rocket science. And it did not help that it changed all the time.

Fortunately, those days are gone and anyone can get decent website traffic by doing a few simple things.

First, in order to get your website at the top of the list, you need to know how search engines work. I'm not going to get into the esoteric in's and out's and all the complicated stuff, because you really do not need to know any of that.

It's kind of like when you enter a room and flipping on the switch to turn on the lights. You do not need to know how electricity or alternating currents work, you just want the lights to come on. Fortunately, as long as you are aware of a couple of things, you do not need to know the behind-the-scenes complicated stuff.

What you do need to know is that the more one-way links you have to your website, the more search engines take notice. And the more they take notice, the more they show up.

So what the heck is a one-way link?

A one-way link is when something on another website has a link to your website and there is not a link from your website to that website. The link can be from an article, a blog post or even just a mention on someone else's website.

This is one of the reasons that a blog hosted elsewhere (such as on WordPress or on a separate domain) can be so effective.

Is there more to the story than this? Yes. But this is the basic bit you need to know. Hopefully it will get you thinking about what you can do to create those one-way links. We'll cover additional pieces of the puzzle in other articles.
