The road transport department (JPJ) has issued a statement for its special operation that will be focused on motorcyclists, and this will be held over a two-month duration from today, November 1 until December 31, 2024.
Named Operasi Khas Motosikal Tahun 2024, this will be held nationwide with a focus on motorcyclists and motorcycle owners for compliance to road rules under Act 333 of the Road Transport Act 1987 and its sections.
The implementation of Operasi Khas Motosikal Tahun 2024 follows the upwards trend in monthly fatal road crash statistics recorded by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), particularly those involving motorcyclists, has risen by 1,908, or 80%, according to the JPJ.
“The target is to reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to road accidents using a focused enforcement strategy to monitor, detect and take action against riders or motorcycle owners who fail to comply with stipulated regulations,” JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said in the statement.
For the purpose of achieving the overall objective of this operation that is to minimise the accident rate and death toll in the third and fourth quarters of this year, the JPJ will be focusing on eight key offences:
- Operating a motor vehicle without a valid license
- Operating a motor vehicle without road tax
- No insurance cover
- Running red lights
- Extreme modifications of vehicle
- Riding motorcycle without wearing a helmet
- Illegal racing
- Other technical offences
The JPJ also advised road users, especially motorcycle riders and pillion riders, to obey the law and road traffic rules, and to be tolerant of other road users.
