There is a certain pride in owning an exclusive collectible; not everyone can own one, and it can easily become the centre of attention and of conversations. Though they typically rest on top of pedestals for everyone to see, the masterpieces below are designed to be with you wherever you go.
From an eccentric creation to an ode to minimalistic elegance – here are timepieces that are sure to step up your wardrobe game.
Audemars Piguet x KAWS Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “COMPANION”
The Swiss watch manufacturer, Audemars Piguet, previously teased an exciting collaboration with American singer and designer KAWS. Now, the two have unveiled the highly-anticipated timepiece, the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Companion” limited edition.
The watch has a 43mm case size and comes with a black ceramic crown and a sandblasted titanium watch case. It runs on a hand-wound 2979 movement, which provides 72 hours of power reserve while beating at a rate of 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The dial is a sunburst titanium plate that traps the KAWS’s iconic COMPANION figure inside the watch. The different grey tones surrounding the character highlight its three-dimensional construction. Like a beating heart, the tourbillon movement can be seen peeking through COMPANION’s chest.
Subtly reimagined with “X” motifs, AP’s iconic eight hexagonal screws that secure the bezel, case middle, and caseback are a nod to another KAWS signature and mirror COMPANION’s eyes. The watch is matched with two interchangeable, textile-like, light grey and slate grey calfskin leather straps that complement its greyscale colour scheme.
With only 250 units available globally, the Royal Oak Concept Tourbillon “Companion” is a collector’s piece you don’t want to miss out on. The timepiece retails for CHF200,000 (~RM1,006,659) and is available for inquiry through Audemars Piguet.
Zenith x Collective Horology Defy Skyline C.X Edition
Of course, Audemars Piguet isn’t the only Swiss manufacturer developing high-end watches, as Zenith has also teamed up with Collective Horology for another limited-edition timepiece. The new partnership, known as the Defy Skyline C.X Edition, takes Zenith’s iconic model and makes it more minimalistic.
Inspired by the industrial design of the 20th century, the collaborative time-teller has a tonal appearance, with a matte silvery-grey covering its case, bezel, and dial. The dial is housed in a 41mm stainless steel construction and has lume-filled hands and indices, a small-second display, and the recognisable starry sky pattern.
The El Primero 3620 SK Manufacture calibre, which is visible through the transparent caseback, has a star-shaped oscillating weight and beats at an incredible 36,000 vibrations per hour with a 55-hour power reserve.
Similar to the standard Defy Skyline, the C.X Editions have a completely changeable strap system. The main accessory for the watch is a stainless steel bracelet, but it also has an extra orange rubber strap, allowing the user to choose between a sporty, casual, and even formal look.
Priced at US$12,300 (~RM54,836), the Defy Skyline C.X Edition is the epitome of minimalist elegance. It will be available for purchase on 19th December via Zenith’s and Collective Horology’s online stores.
