Ong Kian Ming, pro vice-chancellor for external engagement at Taylor’s University, says Malaysia’s bid to join the BRICS group of emerging economies is more about that than “seeking our own legitimate economic interests.”

What a dumb move. Most companies are American or European, why would Malaysia want to antagonize US or Europe by siding with another? If its not broken, why put a nail to your foot???

Malaysia has a neutral stand and trades with both US and China.

Now, will the US rethink if she wants to build semiconductor and AI capabilities and industrial in Malaysia. US might as well focus on the Indonesia market.

  9. @paperpenpencilboxruler says

If Malaysia is neutral why do we need to join a group of Bricks, they cant get their Act together and China want to make their currency as reserve currency (devaluations incoming!) 😂

    BRICS is the future.
There are 3.7 billion consumers in BRICS.
It is a huge market .
    It is not about politics.
Malaysia is neutral between USA and China.
Eventually the world would trade more and more with BRICS.
    Well done to Anwar.

I think it's also about western unfair monetary system. Last year Malaysia received the biggest investment ever from foreign investors but still Ringgit currency almost hit all time low. How is that possible? Said our PM. Stabilisation of Ringgit is one of our country top priority right now

    You couldn't be more wrong!

Malaysia ascension to BRICS is VISIONARY LEVERAGING, and embarking and harnessing BRI is BRIDGING MALAYSIA DREAMS TO REALITIES ( FROM NOW TO FUTURE ). ANWAR MASTERSTROKE!

All Anwar administrations needed is to initiate a colossal idea like the world biggest port and relegate Singapore to an auxiliary port, Malaysia is there! Next, through BRI & BRICS, create an iconic project in each state, 13 in all excluding the port, Malaysia piggybacking on China ambitions will be richest country THIRD TO NONE, and Anwar and PKR will be the evergreen government of Malaysia – CORRECT AND POLITICALLY CORRECT!!!!😊

Malaysia knows one day Uncle Sam will sanction her and also export a lot of human rights and freedom into her also. So Malaysia need to hedge its bet into BRICS as insurance.

  39. @yaoliang1580 says

The decision to join BRICS by the Malaysian PM is a wise move to prevent complete reliance on the US n its G7 vassal states as they are no longer the main engine of growth for the world.
It's also to protect Malaysia from their indiscriminate use of sanctions to collapse the economies of countries that dare disobey their orders n do not align with their extremely toxic foreign policies

RAW IS WAR. Malaysia dissapointed, embarrassed & feeling uneasy to be associated with nations who're proudly portraying severe lack of elamentary reasonings and CHOOSING to support genocides.

Msia fill- in the vacant seat ahead of Thailand w/ 70mil population application. Msia Boleh as UAE.

  44. @mishahul says

to move up the value chain you need brains which can only happen if you open up the universities to best staff and students. affirmative action can continue for malays and others but at least get our best research universities to attract the best talent locally and overseas and the best students from the same, we have a lot of local talent being wasted and leaving the country and strenghthening our competitors instead of usiing their brains for our benefit. also the VCs of public universities cannot be by race and nomination but by global and local talent search. if you want to design chips and innovate green technology and produce green automobiles then promote a fairer system of education, job opportunities and reward.
