Mazda 6e (also known as EZ-6 in China) will be launching in the Indonesian market soon after it was confirmed for the Thailand market. This information was confirmed by PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia Chief Operating Officer Ricky Thio. He also added that the pure electric variant of the 6e will be the model that will debut in Indonesia.
The Mazda 6e, developed in collaboration between Mazda and China’s Changan Automobile, is offered in seven variants with a choice of battery electric (BEV) and extended-range electric (EREV) powertrains in China. However, only the BEV version has been confirmed for global markets.
In terms of design, the Mazda 6e features a low-slung roofline, frameless doors, and a front grille illuminated by LED lighting. It also sports split headlights with integrated daytime running lights and an illuminated Mazda logo. The fastback silhouette is complemented by a ducktail spoiler that automatically deploys at speeds above 90 km/h.
Inside, the Mazda is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset which controls the climate, seat adjustments, and entertainment systems. The sedan has a 14.6-inch infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a 50-inch AR heads-up display (AR-HUD). Other features include a 14-speaker Sony sound system and voice activation.
Mazda Indonesia is yet to reveal the specifications of the powertrain. However, only the BEV variants of the sedan are available for the global markets. The BEV variants are offered in two trims that are powered by a rear-mounted electric motor.
The base model is equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack that offers a 479 km WLTP range. It delivers an output of 258 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The Long Range version comes next, and oddly, it has a weaker electric motor that generates 245 horsepower (180 kW) and 320 Nm. The range is increased to 552 km (WLTP) when combined with a larger 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery pack.
The standard Mazda 6e can be charged from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes thanks to its 200 kW DC charging capability. However, the Long Range variant only allows 95 kW of DC charging, which takes 45 minutes to reach a 10% to 80% charge, even though it has a larger battery. With the Mazda 6e preparing to make its debut in Thailand and Indonesia, it seems there is a possibility for the car to make its appearance in Malaysia.
