Metzeler issues recall for Tourance Next/Next 2 tyres

Tyre maker Metzeler has issued an official recall for its Metzeler Tourance Next and Next 2 models. Designed for adventure-touring motorcycles, the voluntary recall affects Tourance Next and Next 2 in the 150/70R18 size, for rear tyre fitment.

From the announcement, Metzeler says the tyre may fail “under certain usage conditions.” This may be caused by low-pressure riding, extra loads, specific road conditions and others.

Irregular tyre wear may develop, which, over time, may result in a tyre failure that may cause loss of control. The list of production numbers for the Tourance tyres affected is as follows:

  • Product: Metzeler Tourance Next
  • Tyre Size: 150/70R18 M/C 70V
  • Tyre Identification Number (TIN): (1)EB 0M X033
  • Production Date: From 4816 to 2424
  • Product: Metzeler Tourance Next 2
  • Tyre Size: 150/70R18 M/C 70V
  • Tyre Identification Number (TIN): (1)EB 0M 614L
  • Production Date: From 3521 to 2624

  • Product: Metzeler Tourance Next 2
  • Tyre Size: 150/70R18 M/C 70V
  • Tyre Identification Number (TIN): (1)EB 0M 410P
  • Production Date: From 3522 to 3524

The tyre identification number (TIN) and production date can be determined by examining the tyre sidewall. Malaysian owners of motorcycles fitted with these specific Tourance Next and Next 2, and Pirelli Scorpion Trail tyres are advised to contact their Metzler or Pirelli dealer for further action.

From information received from Pirelli/Metzeler Asia-Pacific, the voluntary recall programme began a month ago. Malaysian riders should bring in their motorcycles to their respective Pirelli/Metzeler dealer for a free inspection to determine if the tyre should be replaced.
