Muda to hold party polls in second quarter of 2025

Acting Muda president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said she will be contesting in the party elections and hopes that Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, who is appealing his conviction in a CBT abetment case, will also do so.

PETALING JAYA: Muda will hold its party elections in the second quarter of next year, its acting president, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, said.

The youth-based party will hold the elections in stages, beginning with divisions at the parliamentary level in every state before progressing to the central level polls.

Amira said the elections represent a big step to show the party’s commitment to fair and transparent democratic principles.

“We want to ensure that every step of this election process reflects the values of openness, integrity and professionalism.

“This is about building a new model of politics that truly represents the voice of the people,” she said at a press conference.

Amira also said Muda’s new election director, VKK Rajasekaran Teagarajan, also known as VKK Raja, has been tasked with ensuring that all election procedures adhere to the party’s constitution.

The elections will see 25 key positions contested, with parliamentary representatives given the responsibility of selecting candidates based on their merit and vision.

Amira said this process is not only about electing leaders but also on reinforcing Muda’s mission to set a benchmark for transparent politics.

“The elections are a platform for members to choose a leadership that resonates with their voices. It also signals Muda’s commitment to being a party that prioritises integrity and inclusivity,” she said.

She said preparations for the elections have begun, with the central executive committee and state and regional chairmen briefed on the process.

“The election committee will ensure compliance with the party constitution and engage with the Registrar of Societies and Muda’s legal advisers to ensure they follow all the rules and procedures,” she said.

Muda was set up in 2020 with Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman elected as the president.

Amira said she will be contesting in the elections and hoped that Syed Saddiq, who is appealing his conviction and jail sentence for abetting in criminal breach of trust, would also throw his hat into the ring.

Syed Saddiq was handed down a seven-year prison sentence and ordered to be given two strokes of the rotan.

His appeal has been scheduled for March next year.
