PETALING JAYA: Political party logos cannot be used on any form of government aid, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said this was practised by Perikatan Nasional (PN) when it was in Putrajaya previously but also acknowledged that there have been “one or two cases” of such instances in the current unity government, Bernama reported.

“There is an issue about the distribution of government aid to people. Party logos cannot be used for this,” he was quoted as saying.

Recently, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh urged local government development minister Nga Kor Ming to explain why the DAP logo was printed on mock donation cheques issued to several schools in Ipoh. The Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo was also printed on the mock cheque.

He demanded that Nga should clarify if the funds were from the government or the party.

Nga brushed off the matter, saying there was no issue as “what’s most important is that the schools receive the donation”.

When Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal also hit out at Nga over the matter, netizens pointed out that the former deputy national unity minister had presented a mock cheque with the PN logo printed on it to a school in February 2021.

Wan Fayhsal responded to his critics by saying that he did not “claim” that the aid was given by Bersatu or PN, “unlike the DAP minister”.
