PETALING JAYA: PAS today said it will strengthen its Muafakat Nasional alliance with Umno while standing firm with the Perikatan Nasional government led by Muhyiddin Yassin.
Its secretary-general, Takiyuddin Hassan, said PAS agrees with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s statement today that BN and PAS MPs will continue to support the coalition to form the government of the day.
“PAS is confident that the leadership of the parties that support PN will continue to be the best solution for all the races,” he said in a statement today.
Takiyuddin also said he left it to Muafakat Nasional’s main committee to evaluate PPBM’s interest in joining the pact between Umno and PAS.
Zahid, who is also the Bagan Datuk MP, said that Umno has decided against joining PN and would instead focus on strengthening Muafakat Nasional with PAS and BN components.
Zahid said the decision not to join PN was made at the party’s Supreme Council meeting on July 24.
