Personal branding and the online business world go together like Batman and Robin, peanut butter and jelly, fish and water … well you get the point. It's not possible to really make it successfully with out one or the other working together. It does not matter if your marketing apples and bananas, if your not positioning yourself correctly online, you're not going to last very long.
You can think of the Internet as if it were Time Square in New York City. There are advertisements everywhere with tons of people checking them out each and every day. It can become a bit overwhelming at times to know really where to go, or what to pay attention to. Same goes for stores and discount advertising. Who do you go to? Who has the best deal? Who do you trust? All of this is common online also. The people and companies we wind up choosing are the ones we feel comfortable with. They are the ones we know we can count on. What is it that makes us count on them though?
There are two important things people are looking for when they are searching online. The first is authority and expertise. People are looking for someone who stands out and makes them feel they are going to be working with or buying from the best. The better you can portray your positioning as an expert, and relay information that is reliable, you have a much better chance of them having a belief in you.
The second thing they are looking for is someone they can trust. They want to know who they can trust the most and who they can relate to the best. You have to be able to tell your story in such a way that it builds the trust you want them to have. You can start this easily by saying to yourself – Why am I doing this? You see, there is a reason you are doing what you're doing online. You trusted in someone else. You saw the authority and expertise in what you were looking for. You felt comfortable and confident you were making the right decision.
This all goes back to the beginning. You shop where you do and buy what you buy because you feel comfortable and confident that you're getting the best product at the best price. People today are more skeptical than ever. And they have good reason to be! There are scams everywhere and most of us always fall for them! But that's what makes us stronger. You learn from your mistakes and move on. If we did some research and found the person place or thing we felt confident with in the first place, we would not have made the bad decision to begin with.
This is why it is more important than ever to build yourself into the character that you followed to get where you are. Become that person and relate your true self into the equation. The fact is simple, the better you position yourself to your audience the better and more successful you will be in building your online business.
