Hear that? That’s CENTRAL, the sound of fresh Japanese urban vibes. From an electrifying girl group to a Vocaloid musical Swiss army knife, to a dynamic duo of flavour and genre-bending. Japanese urban sound, coming to you in Kuala Lumpur later this year!
ATARASHII GAKKO!, Tatsuya Kitani, and Creepy Nuts are performing in CENTRAL, part of the Central Music and Entertainment Festival 2025. The joint concert is set to take place this April at Zepp Kuala Lumpur. Here are details about the upcoming concert and the performing acts:
ATARASHII GAKKO! (新しい学校のリーダーズ)
Formed in 2015, the “New School Leaders” or Atarashii Gokkou no Leaders are not ordinary, they’ve been known to cut through conformity with their style and energy. Mizyu, Rin, Suzuka and Kanon have made a name for themselves with hits, like “NAINAINAI” which explored existentialism and finding one’s purpose, cast them into the public eye in 2021. You might know them from the viral song “Otonablue” which gained a footing in TikTok in 2023 and got people’s heads shaking with its funky dance.
Tatsuya Kitani (キタニタツヤ)
What happens when you wrap a singer, lyricist, composer, arranger, bassist and guitarist into one? You get a man who brought you the opening theme song for the first 5 episodes of “Jujutsu Kaisen” Season 2. Tatsuya began his musical journey in elementary school, drawing inspiration from the Asian Kung-Fu Generation, and later venturing into Vocaloid music under “Konichiwa Tanita-san”.
Kitani’s career includes forming bands like Hitsuji no Mure wa Warawanai and Sajou no Hana, as well as supporting Vocaloid producers and contributing to the band Yorushika. He debuted as a singer-songwriter in 2018 and has since gained recognition for tracks like “Moonthief” and “Ao No Sumika”
Creepy Nuts (クリーピーナッツ)
R-Shitei and DJ Matsunaga have been cranking it up since 2013 if you have “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” stuck in your head. It’s their fault, for making the opening theme for the second season of “Mashle: Magic and Muscles”. Which bling-banged its way to the Oricon Combined Singles Chart and Billboard Japan Hot 100 in 2024. Fun fact, R-Shitei actually translate to R-rated, and he’s been known for his ULTIMATE MC BATTLE titles between 2009 and 2014.
DJ Matsunaga has competed in Disco Mix Club’s Japan and World DJ Championships, taking home trophies twice since 2010 and the Battle for World Supremacy championships in 2019. Creepy Nuts made their major debut in 2017 with the single “Koko Debut, Daigaku Debut, Zenbu Shippai Shitakedo Major Debut”.
