I recently attended the Flavours of Festivity: Epicurean Delights for Raya at Texture by C3 Lab in Atria Shopping Mall, an event hosted by California Raisins that commenced with spectacular enthusiasm. This two-day festivity served as a vibrant exhibition of California Raisins’ versatility and lifestyle allure, impeccably timed for the festive Ramadan season.
Flavours of Festivity: Epicurean Delights for Raya with California Raisins
The celebration began with an insightful introduction to California Raisins, spotlighting their journey from the lush vineyards to their pivotal role in both festive and daily culinary practices. Celebrated for their natural sweetness and health benefits, California Raisins took center stage at the event.
Upon arrival, I, along with other guests, was welcomed with pastries and beverages infused with California Raisins. We were also invited to explore a specially arranged Raisin Garden to discover and sample various types of California Raisins. This engaging experience showcased the diverse flavors and culinary potential of raisins.
An interactive photobooth, decked with props and slogans celebrating California Raisins, became a highlight, offering us a delightful way to capture and share memories of the event on social media. We were encouraged to post these photos with the hashtags #CaliforniaRaisins and #RaisinsForRaya, with a chance to win a basket full of California Raisins.
A Celebration of California Raisin Recipes – Sweet By Nature
The event treated us to an array of raisin-themed culinary delights, prepared by two of Malaysia’s renowned pastry chefs. These demonstrations gave us innovative recipe ideas that married traditional Raya flavors with modern culinary techniques.
Chef Aison, an accomplished artisan baker known for his inventive baked goods, showcased his talent by preparing several unique California Raisin pastries, such as California Raisin Hazelnut Babka, California Raisin Kouign-Amann, and California Raisin Carrot Cinnabon.
Chef Lawrence Bobo, dubbed ‘The Mad Scientist’ for his unique pastry and confectionery creations, used his expertise to craft a series of sweet treats, including California Raisin Apple Tarte Tatin, California Raisin Chocolate Orange Cake, and California Raisin Vanilla Petit Gateau.
The epicurean experience continued with lunch, starting with California Raisin & Calamansi Spritzer, and California Raisin Waldorf Salad as an appetizer. The main course featured delicious hot dishes and bakes with California Raisins, namely the Smoked California Raisin Beef Brisket, California Raisin Briyani Rice, and California Raisin Sambal with Fried Quail Eggs. Our Raya feast concluded sweetly with a California Raisin Apple Tatin, followed by California Raisin Chocolate Cake and California Raisin Vanilla Cake as petit fours.
The event wrapped up with each of us taking home a tote bag filled with California Raisin snacks, along with booklets featuring recipes by Chef Aison and Chef Lawrence Bobo to try at home.
