Teased last week, the Realme GT 7 Dream Edition has just been launched in Paris, sitting at the top of the Chinese phone maker’s gaming-focused GT 7 lineup. The limited-run device is the first to stem from a multi-year collaboration with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team, coming with a personalised look and the highest specs.
Positioned between the standard GT 7 and the flagship GT 7 Pro launched back in November, the Dream Edition is priced at RM2,999. Justifying the RM400 premium over the regular series – aside from all the Aston-specific extras, of course – is the fact it is the only variant to come with 16 GB of RAM (12 GB for the others), paired with 512 GB of storage.
Common to all GT 7 models is the launch promotion that provides freebies worth up to RM997 between May 31 and June 30. These include a selfie stick, a one-year warranty against screen cracking and one year of extended warranty. Buyers can also purchase the Realme Buds Air7 Pro in matching Racing Green, priced at RM399 (or RM369 during the promo period).
Differentiating the Dream Edition from the cooking models is the team’s eye-catching Aston Martin Racing Green on the rails and the back, the latter also featuring Gaydon’s white-and-chrome winged badge in aluminium, created through a triple-layer engraving process.
The matte rear panel – made out of graphene and fibreglass to dissipate heat during high-performance usage such as gaming (in concert with what is claimed to be the industry’s largest vapour chamber) – is contoured to mimic the streamlined shape of an F1 car in plan view, emphasised by glossy “aerodynamic flow lines.” Meanwhile, the square camera bump and the power button are highlighted in Lime Essence – the same accent colour used by the team.
The phone comes in a special box which raises when opened and houses a coffee table book highlighting the two firms’ partnership, along with a faux carbon fibre case and a SIM card ejector tool shaped like the race car. The Dream Edition also ships with a specially-developed green theme, replete with a custom startup screen, race-inspired green icons for system and third-party apps and a unique photo watermark.
The rest of the device is identical to the standard GT 7, powered by a new MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chip, built on a four-nanometre process with clock speeds of up to 3.4 GHz. As befits a flagship-class processor, it supports ray tracing and generative AI functionality, enabling the phone to incorporate Google’s Gemini voice assistant and an AI planner that you can use to analyse what’s on the screen and add events into your calendar, simply by double-tapping the back.
At the front sits a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate, a resolution of 2,780×1,264 pixels and a peak brightness of 6,000 nits. Flip the phone around and you’ll find a triple-camera setup with a 50-megapixel f/1.8 main camera (with a 1/56-inch Sony IMX906 sensor), a 50-megapixel 2x telephoto camera and an eight-megapixel ultra-wide; there’s also a 32 MP selfie camera up front.
All this is juiced by a massive 7,000 mAh battery that promises up to three days of battery life, despite the phone measuring just 8.73 mm thick. It comes with support for up to 120-watt SuperVOOC charging that will top up the phone to 50% charge in just 14 minutes and provide a full charge in 40 minutes. There’s no wireless charging, but you do get an IP69 rating for water and dust resistance.
The Dream Edition is just the start of the partnership between Realme and Aston Martin F1 – the two companies will produce two co-branded devices a year, “providing products with ultra performance and stand-out designs to users across the globe.”
