BINTULU: The Sarawak government has engaged a Singapore-based firm to help review the development of the second phase of the port area here, Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg said today.
He said the company, Surbana Jurong, had experience in developing major ports in Singapore.
“They will plan for us to develop the second phase of Bintulu Samalaju Port under Bintulu Port Holdings,” he said after the launch of an oil and gas supply base here today.
“Our steps are to identify new industries and identify new trends towards green activities,” he said. He noted that Bintulu has already been recognised as a green port.
“The new industries require clean energy, and gas is one of the cleanest fossil fuels. However, we also have hydrogen, which can be broken down to produce green energy,” he said.
Abang Johari said the oil and gas supply base launched today would serve as a hub, providing essential materials for oil and gas industry activities.
