Singaporean Tourist Says The Exchange TRX Is A Mix Between ION Orchard & Jewel Changi Airport

The Exchange TRX has solidified its position as one of the top malls in Klang Valley and, perhaps, even in Malaysia. The mall has captivated visitors, both local and tourists alike, with its luxurious designs and tenant offerings -but what do our neighbours from across the Causeway think about the mall?

Like Malaysia, Singapore also houses a lot of malls, with the best-rated being the ION Orchard and The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. Singaporean writer and self-proclaimed urban planning enthusiast Richard H was recently in Kuala Lumpur and decided to drop by The Exchange TRX for a quick review.

According to Richard, the first thing he noticed about the mall was the large number of MRT feeder buses parked by the adjacent MRT station, which shows that the mall is pushing for higher accessibility. Upon entering the mall, the Singaporean noted its spaciousness, highlighting the high ceilings and large shopfront. Richard said the mall looked grand, adding that even the simple cafes looked like the finest cafes in Paris.

In his Twitter thread, Richard also praised The Exchange TRX’s MRT connectivity, saying the connection passageway is “wide and not too long, unlike (at) Suria KLCC”. He also commended the wayfinding in the mall, thanks to the clear icons and signage. However, he found the wayfinding signs doubling as directories and ads for tenants like MUJI and Seibu amusing. As for tenants, Richard highlighted The Exchange TRX’s anchor tenant, Seibu, saying the store’s bright interior reminded him of Singapore’s Takashimaya Shopping Centre and Bangkok’s ICONSIAM.

He also praised the TRX City Park but couldn’t fully explore it because of the rain. Richard also said he liked the centre staircase, saying it’s great for visitors to sit on and relax. The Singaporean opined that The Exchange TRX is on par with Pavilion Bukit Bintang and that the mall deserved its given “S-Tier” rating, referencing a local Twitter user’s viral mall ranking tweet.

In comparison to Singaporean malls, Richard thinks The Exchange TRX feels like a mix of ION Orchard and Ngee Ann City or the Jewel Changi Airport without the jungle and waterfall. What do you think about this review?
