The Effectiveness of a Website: Design a Web to Bring Results

0

Sometimes, we take things in front of us for granted. Most internet browsers (people not "browsers), look at website after website and do not really consciously think, what makes a" good "website until it's time for them to build their own!

If they like a website, they stay on it. If they do not, they move on to the next. It becomes an automatic reflex act, something they "just do" without specifically focusing on why.

Well, web designers are like film producers. The final product must create the reaction intended by the producer without the viewer even giving a thought to the exact details of why they liked the movie or not. Did the movie as a whole lead the emotions of the viewer in the direction intended by the producer? That is the question, just as a web designer's question is: Does the website move the viewer to 1) remember the company and / or 2) do what the website wants them to? (Note: Not all websites are after money, some may want a comment posted, a signup for a newletter, etc.)

Here are some pointers to remember so that if and when you ever need a website designed, you have some knowledge on what will make your special web bringing results for your business. Afterall, that is the bottom line.

1. Getting a lot of website visitors (hits on your website) is worthless if no one is inspired to, for example, pick up the phone and call! The number of website visitors that actually "take action" such as contacting you is called your conversion rate.

2. In order to maximize your conversion rate, make sure your contact information is easily visible. Having this information on the top part of the front page is a good idea. Some people refer to this area as "above the fold." Visitors can find it very annoying if they have to "hunt" for contact information! You've been surprised how many websites do not have their contact information easily visible. It's a great reason to give up and click onto another web.

3. One thing that really affects your website visitors to take the action that you want them to, is a great "About Us" page! Tell people who is behind the business. Who will they be dealing with? What are their credentials and experience? It absolutely pays off to put some thought into writing your bio.

4. A lot of people like to gather a consensus of other opinions before making up their mind. So if you can, get a testimonial from your other clients! It does not hurt to ask, especially if you have given great service. I have found that people generally are more than happy to write a few sentence testimonial for you. And if they do not, remember, it's not a personal insult. Some people just can not find the time. If you focus on providing really good service (like me) and / or products, they will come. It is sort of like the movie Field of Dreams, ie, "Build it and they will come," or in our case, "Provide it and they will come."

5. Does not it seem there is always a balance you have to find with everything in life? For example, with regards to websites, many people like seeing a "clean and simple" web page. This is the trick for me – creating a clean enough look without sacrificing the God of search engines … CONTENT!

6. There are those that really do not want to read. When they visit a website, they want visual transmission of information via pictures, photos, images, videos with maybe, a few words here and there. But you know, it makes no difference. You must have words! Words are information, words are content. You need them, especially, if you are not paying $$$ every month for search engine optimization. Do your viewers receive information from you? This is the question search engines think about and rank you accordingly on!

Keeping these points in mind will promote and hopefully improve your conversion rate to get your visitors to take action and ultimately, bring you their business.
