Tiffin’s by Chef Korn is a little restaurant located at the mezzanine floor of the North Court of the Mid Valley City shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur.
It is rather hidden from plain view so if you’re looking to have a meal there, head to the newer area of the mall on the level above GSC cinemas. This area is admittedly rather hidden and the restaurant is located at the opposite end.
The restaurant is an offshoot of Erawan, considered one of the best Thai restaurants in town by many. Tiffin’s however, is a more accessible outlet to the general public and is by the same Chef Korn Yodsuk.
The menu consists of mostly Thai street food offerings, but with higher grade ingredients that are presented with a unique twist. The restaurant does serve pork and is definitely not halal.
The meal this time consisted of stewed pork knuckle rice, beef ball noodles and grilled pork neck.
The grilled pork neck was served with homemade sauce and glutinous rice. It will most likely be fantastic with beer or wine, and if you finish up the glutinous rice, it fares will as a standalone meal as well.
The stewed pork knuckle rice stayed true to its authentic street food flavours, except for the portion being larger than what you’d find at roadside stalls in Bangkok.
The meal was complemented with a serving of preserved vegetables, kailan, and egg with pork.
The beef ball noodles was served with tender Australian shin meat, poached beef, and beef balls in Chef Korn’s homemade broth.
It was certainly different from your run-off-the-mill beef noodles, but one that perhaps take a while to fully appreciate.
The prices here are on the higher side compared to the likes of Go Thai and other such Thai street food restaurants, but the quality in terms of flavours do make it a fair exchange.
If you’re up for some non-halal Thai food, this would be one of the places to check out. Other dishes found here are tomyam noodles, pork noodles, green curry, pineapple fried rice, and more.
