Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is an important part of marketing your website. The reason being is that obviously, the higher up in search engine listings your website goes, the more traffic you are going to get resulting in more sales for you. There are two important parts of SEO optimization that you have to consider to rank high in search engines. That is both offsite and onsite optimization. Both are equally important and below you will find out ways to achieve both.

Onsite Optimization Tips

Keywords – It is important to have keywords that are relevant to your website's content spread out through your site. This will get you targeted visitors to your website because each time a user types in a keyword that you have optimized your site for a search engine, your website will be displayed among the results. The more specific and lower in competition the keywords are to your website, the more chances of hitting first page of search engines.

Headings – Headlines make it easier for search engines to find your website, so the more relevant it is the better for your ranking. Also, your site is easier to read for your visitors if you have a carefully constructed headline.

Tags – A website which includes the correct use of html tags are search engine friendly and have a better chance of being picked up and ranked high. When using tags, ensure you are using only one H1 html tag as this will help search engines decide what your website is about. You can use H2 html tags but make sure they are only used for post and paragraph titles. H3 html tags are not necessary, but you can use them in sidebar categories.

Offsite Optimization

Many people when trying to optimize their sites for high search engine rankings forget this important step. In fact, this step can actually be what soars your website to the top of the search engines rather than hitting the 20th page. Here are some tips to offsite optimization.

Backlinks – This is basically when other sites link to yours, but you do not link back. It is also known as an inbound link. Inbound links are considered "votes" in the eyes of search engines, therefore the more quality inbound links you have, the more valuable search engines will find your website. You can get quality backlinks several ways:

1. Write articles – Write 300 to 500 word articles relevant to your website content and include a link to your site in the resource box. Submit to high ranking article directories to gain quality inbound links.

2. Blog commenting – Comment on other people's relevant blogs. Offer informative comments and link your website where you fill out your name.

3. Forum signatures – Find forums that are in the same niche as your website and register for a free account. Now, include a link back to your website in your signature line and become an active participant of the forum.

These are just a few offsite and onsite optimization tips you can follow to help you climb your way up the search engine rankings. Most importantly, make sure you are always offering valuable content for your visitors.
