KOTA KINABALU: A total of 3,957 tourism workers whose source of income had been affected due to Covid-19 will receive RM300 each from the Sabah government.

State tourism, culture and environment minister Jafry Ariffin said these people comprised mountain guides and porters, tourist guides and divemasters, among others.

This is after the ministry received over RM1 million from the RM160 million Bantuan Prihatin Covid-19 announced by the chief minister yesterday.

“This is a way to ease their burden following the outbreak of the pandemic,” he said, in a statement here today.

He was speaking during a meeting with the Sabah Parks board of directors as well as representatives from the mountain guides and porters association.

Meanwhile, among other issues discussed were the welfare of Sabah Parks staff and the upgrading of tourism infrastructure in the state.
