Influencer Ceddy Ang and actress Amelia Henderson have been doing extremely well in their careers. In the latest episode of the “Sembang Atas Dulang” on SYOK’s YouTube channel, the two stars talked about what they’ve been up to and even spill some secrets about the entertainment industry.
By secrets, we mean things that they’ve personally experienced themselves, especially when they were just starting out in their careers. At one point during the episode, Ceddy claimed that although content creators and influencers are on the rise, there’s hardly any respect for them in the industry.
He recalled the day he was taking a lift with a famous actress at a media event. When they exited the lift, photographers quickly ran up to the actress to take photos of her. “The path for us to walk through was so narrow but these photographers rudely told me to go away so they could take photos of her. I was an invited guest and this is how you treat me? There’s still no respect for content creators,” he said.
Amelia Henderson agreed by elaborating that it happens to everyone who is just starting out in the industry. “If people were to do the same to me now, I would leave but there was a time I wasn’t respected enough or established enough to be treated as a human being,” she described. The 28-year-old recalled the time she returned to the entertainment industry as a host but felt unwanted and out of place during her first hosting gig.
With time and more experience, Amelia now understands the politics of how things work. “This is such a cut-throat industry and sometimes people being rude to you is a product of their own environment. That’s the harsh truth and it’s unfair, yes. They’re probably too busy thinking about themselves to consider everyone else,” the actress said eloquently.
Apart from each other’s experiences in show business, both Ceddy and Amelia also expressed their disapproval of production companies hiring unqualified influencers to act or host alongside experienced and trained professionals – just because they went viral online. “They’ll be everywhere like on TV and such after going viral once or twice but they can’t act! They’ll drown if they were to star alongside someone like [Amelia] on a project,” said the content creator.
From this discussion, we can conclude that the entertainment industry is not as glamorous as it appears to be. It’ll take a lot of hard work, patience and perseverance to even step foot in the business.
