Beloved K-pop sensation TREASURE (트레저) brought Kuala Lumpur to life with their dazzling ‘2024 TREASURE RELAY TOUR [REBOOT]’ concert, mesmerising fans with their high-energy performances and breathtaking visuals. However, amidst the post-concert euphoria, a controversial moment has sparked heated discussions among fans on Twitter.
As mentioned in our concert review, a foreign fan’s suggestion of “Chicken Canai” when asked about local Malaysian delicacies has upset local fans because they felt a non-local should have passed the mic to someone local when asked about Malaysian cuisine. They criticised the foreign fan’s suggestion as ignorant and selfish, questioning why she was given the opportunity to speak instead of a local fan.
The controversy intensified among concert attendees, who questioned how the foreign fan obtained the mic to offer food suggestions in the first place when there were numerous locals eager to share their expertise. The incident sparked discussions about cultural sensitivity and the importance of local knowledge in representing Malaysian traditions accurately.
Responding to the backlash, local fans expressed a mixture of disappointment and disbelief. A Twitter user stated, “None of the locals are happy with her answer. If you are not a local being asked a local question, pass the mic to a local instead of giving a stupid answer!“
