The popular Japanese media franchise Pokémon is well-loved by everyone worldwide, including Malaysians. Just last year, we saw many collaborations between the adorable brand and F&B chains like OREO and Tealive. The franchise also opened a Hobby Store in May 2024 at IOI City Mall, where they mainly sell official merchandise like apparel and collectables.

With the new year comes the opening of a new Pokémon store in the nation. Located in the heart of Petaling Jaya, the Pokémon PlayLab has opened its doors at 1 Utama shopping centre. So, calling all Pokémon Trainers—pack your Pokéballs and let’s check out what this new shop has to offer!

To begin, they offer a variety of adorable—and official—merchandise, such as plushies and figurines. However, for the gacha fans, there are also blind boxes and gashapons machines available on the site. These make the ideal present for your Pokémon-crazed loved ones, so don’t worry if you’re not a huge fan yourself—you can still check this place out!

If you’ve heard about the latest Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCG) app or have been collecting physical trading cards since they were released back in 1996, then you’ll definitely want to check this store out. At the PlayLab, you can challenge a friend or another trainer to compete in a 1v1 match in the Card Battle area! Don’t have any cards to start with? Fret not—you can buy booster packs and play to your heart’s content. So, here’s your chance to bring along your equally competitive PTCG friend and see who stands victorious.
