Water treatment plant project halted after embankment collapses

An embankment collapse caused the constuction site of a water treatment plant to be flooded today.
PETALING JAYA: Construction of a water treatment plant in Puchong has been put on hold following the collapse of an embankment which resulted in water inundating the area.
The project’s contractor, Gamuda Berhad, said the water breach at 2pm was entirely confined within the construction site in Taman Mas, Puchong.
No one was injured.
“All work has been paused to evaluate the situation and implement additional safety protocols,” the company said.
An investigation will be carried out into the cause of the collapse and determine the appropriate course of action, Gamuda said.
The RM4 billion treatment plant by Air Selangor is for the Rasau water supply scheme and is expected to produce an additional 700 million litres of water per day by the end of next year.
