Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan (郑金炎), founder and chairman of Waz Lian Group, passed away at 72, prompting a gathering of over a hundred mourners at Nirvana Hall in Kuala Lumpur.
The funeral, held at the high-end memorial hall, began today and will continue until 20th June, open to the public, relatives, and friends. Known for his business acumen and community involvement, Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan received condolences from cabinet ministers, Chinese community leaders, and prominent figures.
Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul and his wife, along with Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong Keng Shin, paid respects alongside leaders like Tan Sri Kwong Hon Kwong and Tan Sri Lim Wee Chai. Political figures including MPs and assemblymen also attended, underscoring Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s broad influence. Editors-in-chief from major Chinese newspapers and business tycoons like Tan Sri Lim Kang Hoo and Tan Sri Koo Yun Kim joined in honouring his memory.
The funeral hall was adorned with over a hundred floral tributes, including wreaths from Sultan Ibrahim, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei, singer Gary Chaw (曹格) and Tan Sri Vincent Tan, creating a solemn yet elegant setting. Buddhist rituals marked the service, reflecting Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s lifelong faith and community contributions.
Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan held honorary positions in various organizations, including the Federation of Fujian Associations of Malaysia and the Malaysian Xing’an Association. His leadership extended to the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Volleyball Association of Malaysia.
Minister Tengku Zafrul conveyed condolences, highlighting Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s impact on the Chinese community. Minister Tiong Keng Shin emphasized their long-standing friendship and personal loss. Dai Liangye, reflecting on Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s charitable efforts, praised his generosity. Tan Sri Chong Ting Sen shared a touching anecdote illustrating Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s unwavering loyalty and support for friends in need.
Tan Sri Ta Kin Yan’s legacy spans business success, community leadership, and philanthropy, leaving a lasting imprint on Malaysian society. His passing marks a significant loss, mourned deeply across sectors and communities alike.
