Web Site Marketing – Top 3 Web Site Marketing Strategies

If your business isn’t using some sort of web marketing yet…shame on you!  Practically everyone is online these days.  People shop online, they socialize online, and they certainly look for whatever you’re selling online.  The question is, are you going to be there when they do?

I guess web site marketing can refer to a lot of different things, but for the purpose of this article I’ll just say it’s marketing your business on the web.  

In my experience, the top 3 web site marketing strategies are as follows:

Google AdWords

Google AdWords are the small ads that run down the right hand side of a Google search results page.  Also known as pay-per-click, they show up when someone types predetermined keywords into the Google search engine.  You can also find them on websites that carry similar content.  This is known as the content network.  You only pay when someone clicks on your ad and is sent to your website.  You’re also able to control your budget and where your ads will be shown geographically.  Obviously, the main benefit to AdWords is that you can send targeted traffic to your website and only pay when someone visits.  In a shaky economy, features like this will enable many smaller businesses to keep advertising.  Think about it…if someone told you it was possible to only pay when targeted visitors actually visited your site, would you be interested?

Article Marketing

Article marketing is becoming more and more popular these days.  Basically, online articles such as this one are written and submitted to online article directories.  Good ones will be keyword rich and will eventually find their way onto Google’s organic search results down the left hand side of a search results page.  This type of marketing will also create lots of backlinks to your website, which will increase its popularity in the eyes of search engines.  It can take much longer to get things rolling with article marketing as opposed to AdWords, but aside from your time, you don’t have to pay for any of the traffic.

The Website Itself

Once the people who are looking for what you sell end up at your website, it’s up to the website itself to convert that prospect into a buyer.  There are countless ways to accomplish this, but if you can remember to always keep your website visitor in mind and gear the site to them rather than your own ego, you’ll be well on your way.  Making sure your website is easy to navigate and full of useful information helps too.  Just think of what you would want to see if you ended up on your own site.

There are many other elements to web marketing, but these are the top 3 web site marketing strategies in my opinion.  Being there when your prospective customer is looking for what you’re selling, then selling it to them is really what it’s all about.
