Website Blunders – Not Optimizing Your Site

One mistake new website owners often make is not optimizing your site. You may have the best site around but if you do not use optimization you may not get many visitors. The key to web marketing is to use as many avenues as possible to get people to visit your web site. Hopefully, your web site will promote your product or service well and will get people to make purchases. Getting people to get your website, however, can be difficult.

There are literally millions of websites on the Internet and thousands of them are your direct competition. Use optimization techniques to draw users to your site over the similar sites of others. When you complete your web site you should submit it to all the major search engines. You will need to summarize your website in as few words as possible.

Optimizing your site should start when you build it. First, find all the keywords that are used in your business. These are words that ordinary people will use to search for a site with your product or service. Make a list of all the keywords you can think of that deal with your company. Be sure to include terms that may be partial words from common terms used in your business. For instance, if you sell slipcovers be sure to include the terms slip and covers as separate words.

Once you have a list of keywords you may now need to share the list down. Typically you need a list of less than 25 keywords. Go through the words and eliminate the weakest ones. You can also do your own market research by looking at sites that sell similar products or services as you. Look to see what they use for keywords and search terms. Then optimize your site accordingly.

Provide content on your site that is not only interesting and informative but also contains the keywords you've chosen. This will greatly help search engines find your site more easily. When people conduct a search online there are often many pages of results. However, most people do not move past the first page of results and choose a site in the top 10 results. Your ultimate goal is for your web site to be listed among the top 10 results in a category.

Use your keyword in the web content on each page of your site. The best way to use keywords is to interspers them through the content so that they are not obvious when reading it. The information should make sense to the reader without sounding as though you are inserting words that do not fit or make sense. Once your website is ready you can submit it to search engines.
