WhatsApp Now Allows Users To Create Nameless Groups

WhatsApp will now allow groups to be created on the app without naming it. The update announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg via his Facebook page, as well as Meta’s Instagram channel.

Instead of the old requirement, creating a nameless group on WhatsApp will now simply have it display the name of the participants, even if the administrator has yet to come up with a name of topic of discussion for it. However, unlike a typical group on the instant messaging app, whereby a named group can host up to 1,024 participants, nameless groups will only host up to six participants.

As indicated by TechCrunch, the identity of the nameless WhatsApp group will differ from each of the six participants, based mainly on how they are named on your contact list. To put it simply, if you’re in a group where no one knows you or haven’t saved your number on their phone, they’ll simply see your phone number on the list.

The new nameless group feature comes just days after WhatsApp made it possible for its users to send HD photos and videos on the app. It also says that if you’re on the receiving end of an HD photo and you have low bandwidth, you can choose on a photo-by-photo basis on whether you want to keep the standard version or “upgrade” it to high definiton. Moreover, the company stated that it will be adding the option to send videos in HD soon.
