Pavilion Damansara Heights may have just opened its doors but netizens are already questioning the mall’s future, especially given the abundance of shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. Twitter user Xavier Naxa tweeted about the new mall, wondering if it will share the same fate as “quiet malls” like Lalport, The Strand, Melawati Mall and more. The tweet received many responses, showing mixed opinions.
Some say that there are too many malls in the surrounding area that the new one might find it hard to attract a crowd. However, others say the mall could survive if it knows how to cater to those residing in Damansara Heights and Bangsar. Funnily, many also took the opportunity to defend Tropicana Gardens Mall and Melawati Mall, saying that the two aren’t as “dead” as Xavier assumed.

The discussion about Pavilion Damansara didn’t end there because many other netizens shared their thoughts about the Damansara mall and other malls in general. Most said they’re tired of seeing new malls in the KL area and hope for more developments like parks or libraries. Others also point out that the construction of Pavilion Damansara Heights had negatively affected the traffic in the surrounding area.
However, some netizens did show their interest in the shopping complex, particularly in the Tesla showroom that will open there soon. Those working in the Damansara area also said they’re looking forward to checking out the dining options in the mall when it fully opens. Besides the currently opened Christine’s Bakery and OMI, some of the restaurants set to open in Pavilion Damansara Heights include Oriental Kopi and Din by Din Tai Fung.

Although Pavilion Damansara Heights is the smallest mall compared to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur and Pavilion Bukit Jalil, many others are hopeful that it will attract more crowds when more stores open. Many of the major events (celebrity red carpets) are often held in Pavilion KL, while Pavilion Bukit Jalil has been launching a ton of exciting exhibition. As of now, the incomplete walkway to the nearest Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT remains a major concern for public commuters.
