Time is such a precious thing, yet it is also very abstract. Some look forward to the future, while others reminisce about the past. Which side are you on?
From evoking childhood memories to futuristic creations, here are two wristwatch drops that will send you on a trip through time.
AVI-8 x Capcom Limited-Edition Flyboy 1942 Automatic Pixel Watch
The beloved gaming brand Capcom has been known for giving us incredible gaming moments across generations. From Street Fighter to Monster Hunter, each entry in their extensive repertoire is nothing short of iconic. To give back to their supportive fans, Capcom has joined forces with AVI-8 to create the Limited-Edition Flyboy 1942 Automatic Pixel Watch.
The timepiece is inspired by Capcom’s “1942,” complete with the iconic pixelated biplane that will send anyone down memory lane. Paying homage to the original game, the wristwatch features a custom-moulded 3D dial that is complete with pixel-like textures and patterns. It perfectly mimics a normal level of the game, with the added bonus of a lush green island on the upper right corner, a second player firing missiles just below it, and player 1’s green biplane to the left.
This watch comes in two versions: “Gunmetal Ace,” which features a blue dial and dark silver band, and “Silver Ace,” with its black dial and stainless steel band.
On the other hand, there is also the “Midnight Ace,” which has an exclusive design. Rather than the vast sea, it features a darkened aircraft carrier that appears at the start of each stage in the original game. With its midnight black stainless steel band, it’s sure to make you look more sophisticated without losing your sense of fun.
It wasn’t just those details that received a makeover, as the text and numbers also received an 8-bit upgrade; even the second hand wasn’t spared, as it too can be seen rocking the iconic plane on the opposite side of its tip.
Arriving in 41mm case size, the watch is powered by the Japan-made automatic movement with a date function. You can enjoy your nostalgia trip with its original steel bracelet or the complimentary leather strap.
The AVI-8 x Capcom Limited-Edition Flyboy 1942 Automatic Pixel Watch will be available on 27th September for US$375 to US$395 (~RM1,565 to ~RM1,648) through AVI-8’s official website.
Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date
Audemars Piguet is no stranger to developing wildly experimental timepieces; however, the brand’s latest concept creation might take the phrase “bigger is better” to a whole new level.
Boasting a 43mm case diameter, the timepiece features the Swiss brand’s new coloured forged carbon material, which has been developed by Chroma Forge Technology. Coming in a deep black imbued with blue luminescent pigments, the case creates a visually mesmerising contrast that blends nicely together, especially with its openworked dial.
The rubber strap, subcounters, and inner bezel all have vivid colours that complement the hints of electric blue, and a black ceramic bezel with AP’s trademark screws is positioned between them.
The technical aspects of this reference are extremely intricate because it has a flyback chronograph, a split-seconds chronograph, a 24-hour GMT, hours, minutes, small seconds, and large date functions. Underneath the hood is the AP’s self-winding Calibre 4407, capable of beating at 28,800 vibrations every hour and 70 hours of continuous running time.
The Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date retails for US$206,800 (~RM863,184) and is now open for inquiry at Audemar Piguet’s official website.
