Honda India has teased the new third-generation Amaze sedan, set to replace its six-year-old predecessor. The sub-four-metre four-door takes aim at the Tata Tigor and Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the latter also slated to receive a full model change soon.
The sole sketch provided shows a new front end that borrows heavily from the latest HR-V and City, equipped with dual-projector trapezoidal headlights, a large hexagonal grille, a clamshell bonnet and a full-width chrome bar.
No details have been released but we can expect the new Amaze to ride on Honda’s Global Small Car platform, which also underpins the City and the Elevate B-segment SUV (also known in Japan as the WR-V, unrelated to the ASEAN version). This will likely grant the car new technologies and safety features, such as a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, up to six airbags and the Honda Sensing suite of driver assists.
Given that it’s set to once again comply with India’s small sedan regulations, the Amaze should soldier on with the same engines as before – a 90 PS/110 Nm 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol four-cylinder and a 100 PS/200 Nm 1.5 litre i-DTEC four-pot turbodiesel, both mated to either a CVT or a five-speed manual gearbox.
The arrival of the new Amaze is set to have larger consequences beyond India, as it is also likely to underpin the next Brio for the Indonesian market, as well as the next-gen BR-V and ASEAN WR-V further down the line.
