KUALA LUMPUR: The 40-minute promotional video for Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) will be split into shorter videos or “zones”, each featuring two to three states, says the tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing.
He said five 10-minute special promotional videos have been produced based on Malaysia’s five main regions: central, northern, southern and eastern of the peninsula, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.
“This (40-minute) video is indeed a little long. (That’s why) we asked our production house to do some ‘zoning’.
“To the people who may think this video is a little too long, we have done ‘zoning’ to split two or three states into one zone,” he told reporters after the launch of the full VM2026 promotional video at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur today.
Tiong also said the videos would be updated and refined every three months to include new tourist destinations.
“Each quarter, we will collaborate with our teams in every state to update the videos. If there is any shortcoming, we will rectify it,” he said.
On Feb 20, Tiong revealed that the full VM2026 promotional video cost RM1.9 million and runs for 40 minutes.
He also said the production of the video went through the proper tender process, and all approvals were obtained from the finance ministry.
The previously released 41-second teaser was criticised by Bersatu Youth and PAS Youth, who claimed it failed to represent Malaysia’s Muslim majority as it focused too much on non-Muslim places of worship, such as churches and temples.
